The human trafficking ring he is tracking, known as the Consortium, is made up of many different criminal organisations across the world which are highly invested in keeping the operation intact. One of my absolute favorites. For this latest Throwback Thursday I check out the debut novel of impressive thriller author Mark Greaney, The Gray Man. He is extremely good at keeping a low profile, hence his moniker. To those who lurk in the shadows, he's known as the Gray Man. Loaded with a ton of action of spy thriller excitement, this was such a fun and action-packed read that gets a full five-star rating from me. I also absolutely loved the authors excellent use of multiple perspectives throughout the novel, which was a real highlight for me. And Greaney is a top notch author. BUG!!! My problem is I stumbled onto a series I would like to start reading, but am not where I can write it down or remember author/titles (age related memory challenges). Officially known as Special Detachment Golf Sierra, it became affectionally known, to those few who knew about it all, as the Goon Squad. Nice problem to have if you're him though! I will eagerly await new books in the series. He took the covername of the Gray Man, a name that grew to legendary status with each success. Not only has he produced some impressive standalone reads such as Armored and Red Metal (co-written by Hunter Ripley Rawlings IV), but his Gray Man series has just had its first adaptation on Netflix. Captain America directors, Anthony Russo and Joe Russo are set to write and direct the film, while Joe Roth and Palak Patel will produce. Right now, its not looking good. He trained with tactical officers on a daily basis as a boy at his father's SWAT school. The CIA transport plane that Court Gentry, the Gray Man, is hitching a ride on lands at a airfield and a hooded man is brought on board by guards. All of this makes for an epic and enjoyable audiobook and this is definitely an amazing way to check Relentless out. Sierra Six, features a bold and captivating story that cleverly utilises two distinctive timelines to tell its intense and moving tale. I look forward to seeing how Greaney continues this series in the future, and I must really go back and check out some of the earlier Gray Man novels this year, especially as a movie adaption of The Gray Man is currently being made by the Russo brothers with Ryan Gosling and Chris Evans set to star (I mean, talk about a movie with some real potential). This proved to be a deeply exciting and truly compelling entry from Greaney, who once again shows why he is one of the top thriller authors in the world today. Every scene he is in is a lot of fun, mainly because he is such an annoying figure in them, and this ensures that the reader is constantly barracking for Gentry, hoping that he wins so that he can punch Lloyd in the face. I was extremely impressed with how this fantastic story came together, and this ended up being an addictive read with so many awesome moments in it. I started getting into Greaneys work last year, when I grabbed a copy of his 2019 release, Mission Critical, due to its fun-sounding plot, and I ended up really liking it. And with two other books in the series, Ballistic published in 2011 and Dead Eye published in 2013, there is plenty of more reading and adventures from Court Gentry to keep fans thoroughly entertained. I enjoyed every one of the books, and cant wait for the next book in the series. Want to Read. His father ran a SWAT school near Tallahassee, Florida where Gentry grew up. Overall, Mission Critical was a deeply entertaining espionage novel that is bound to keep readers absorbed with its excellent action and thriller elements. When he learns that his friend had been murdered, he is determined to get justice even though the list of people hunting him is growing and growing. The exciting narrative, beautifully descriptive and intensely real scenes across the entire series will leave you with more than just another clichd CIA assassin story; The Gray Man series goes above and beyond the well-worn and predictive narratives of fictional thrillers and gives great credibility to a genre often overlooked in literature. 12 years ago, long before he became the Gray Man, Court Gentry was a talented young agent for the CIA. When Six unwittingly uncovers dark secrets about the agency, he's forced to go on the run. Subscribe today! Court Gentry, aka the Violator, aka the Gray Man, is an action-oriented guy. A judicial panel voted to remove Kenton County Family Court Judge Dawn Gentry from the bench. The narrative switches between the two timelines every chapter or two and you get a great sense of what is happening in both well-established storylines. I did a test with your other e-mail address and it worked fine. All these characters were extremely impressive and I had a brilliant time getting to know them throughout the course of Sierra Six. For example, the fiction criminal group B-Company are clearly based on the infamous real-life D-Company, and it was quite intriguing to see them worked into the story, while also examining their origin and goals of their leadership. An Enquirer analysis has found taxpayers have spent at least $260,000 . Mark Greaney is at MY TOP SELLER list, bar none. However, with the CIA still relentlessly pursuing his every move, Gentry reluctantly agrees to take on their crazy mission, which will see him surrender his $4 million dollar reward for the kill, and instead hand the Sudanese President over to the CIA in return for a get out of jail free card. His skill did not prove enough to keep him out of trouble, however, and at eighteen he got into a skirmish that left three Cuban drug dealers dead. Rate this book. Its something we are looking into with a new, big project in the future where youll hopefully be able to do that, and much more. Court Gentry is forced to live off the grid to stay alive but he takes a chance to investigate the death of an old friend. The protagonist, Court Gentry (and I have to point out how much I love that name), is a solid and dependable badass agent to anchor this series. To give your opinion, you must be logged in. Great Series. In addition to Relentlesss epic story, I really enjoyed Greaneys cool writing style, which complemented the narrative perfectly. However, his career in government espionage came to a violent end when Gentry was set up and burnt, becoming one of the most wanted men in the world with a shoot-to-kill order on his head. 03110, Kyiv, 2A Solomianska str., Loaded with fun character, brutal action sequences, and some intriguing espionage moments, this was another outstanding book I had a brilliant time reading. This novel is structured to be very accessible to new readers, and anyone can easily pick up this book and start reading it without any knowledge of the prior entries in the series, especially as certain key elements are carefully explained when necessary. I am a big fan of the Gray Man novels, having been blown away by his first book, The Gray Man, while also deeply enjoying his great recent entries in the series, including Mission Critical, One Minute Out (one of my favourite books and audiobooks of 2020), Relentless (one of my favourite books and audiobooks of 2021), and Sierra Six (one of my favourite books and audiobooks from the first half of 2022). Court is a bit similar to Will Cochran, Jonathan Grave, and Orphan X. This is a dynamite series, extremely well written, believable even when the events are unbelievable, fast-paced and captivating. Gentry's ethics are greatly tested. I have very little doubt that Burner is going to end up being one of my absolute favourite books of next year, and it is one of my most anticipated reads for early 2023. The Bar Association of Kyiv city I also liked Greaneys depiction of the inner politics of the CIA and how that might impact on missions and the distribution of resources, as well as a look at the CIAs relationship with other countries intelligence agencies. The Gray Man (Gray Man, #1) by. Gentry was previously arrested on Jan. 24, 2019, on charges filed in Macon County. Testament to the outstanding writing found in these books, Mark Greaney brilliantly circumvents the traditional linear narration for an unconventional route this time as the narrative moves forward in two parallel chains of events, one for current timeline . I loved the impressive and complex story contained within Relentless with all its twists and turns, and I swiftly became enthralled by the well-written and intense narrative. This audiobook format proved to be the perfect way to enjoy this great book, especially as the many intense action sequences come to life extremely well while being narrated. Five eleven (5'11") Greaneys next book, Burner, is coming out in February 2023 and it looks set to be quite an intense and action packed read. While I appreciate the offer please support one of these great causes instead (list rotates monthly):Coldest Night of the Year The second was a mystery. I really enjoyed seeing Gentry use his espionage tradecraft to tear through the less competent criminal elements at the lower end of the group, before going up against the better trained, elite enforcers of the organisation. While a large part of the book is told from the third person, Greaney utilises a first-person perspective for the scenes that Gentry is narrating. One Minute Out by Mark Greaney is an outstanding and exceptional new thriller which takes the reader on a dark and action-packed adventure around the world. However, Court Gentry remains moral and ethical in an unmoral world, or at least as moral as a hitman can be. Even with such a limitation, the call for Gentry's talents grew as each mission proved more challenging than the one before. No statement has been released regarding who will play the lead role of Court Gentry. However, their mission resulted in a high body count and a great personal loss that has haunted Gentry ever since. Having the women work to free themselves was a nice touch by Greaney, and I particularly loved one scene where several of the women defied typical convention and helped save Gentry, with realistic explanations for how they obtained their relevant skills (thank goodness for equal opportunity Eastern European military training). All the books in the entire series are just fantastic. While there are a few recurring characters from the previous Gray Man novels, most of the focus are on newer figures, who Greaney provides with compelling and interesting backstories. There is a real focus on tradecraft throughout Sierra Six, and the author ensures that everything feels exceedingly realistic and gritty as the characters play their spy games. Together Gentry and Corbu are able to trace the human trafficking pipeline across Eastern Europe to Italy and America. This results in a variety of different opponents and obstacles that he must overcome, ranging from low level street thugs to elite South African mercenaries trained in similar methods as Gentry. While I did receive a paperback version of Sierra Six, I went out of my way to also get this novel on audiobook as I have had some awesome experiences with the Gray Man books in this format before. Overall, this was an exceptional way to check out this book, and I would strongly recommend the audiobook format to anyone interested in this novel. I couldn't wait to get the finale and yet hated the thought of the book ending. On my "can''t wait to read" lists. In both cases, Gentry and his allies embark on a methodical hunt for their quarry, with a high body count accumulating as they follow various leads and respond to their opponents counter plays. At least you saved all of my first typings so I could type this bug report at the end. One of the most compelling things about this novel is the way that Greaney has anchored his excellent thriller story around a sinister real-life trade that is currently plaguing the world, human trafficking for sexual slavery. Gentry gives chase to the surviving mercenaries to regain the kidnapped man and soon finds himself investigating the case by himself. All these storylines come together extremely well, ending with a massive and memorable conclusion that was a lot of fun, and I ended up loving every second of this cool story. international. This might be easiest for you to add, no ongoing overhead or maintenance for you!, we can track our own info instead of forcing you to create a complicated system. ". FatherUnknown MotherBrother This results in an awesome central section of the novel, where Gentry slowly moves through Europe towards his goal, with everyone in the way trying to kill him. He worked covert ops around the world for a few years, black bag jobs mostly, until 9/11, when he was placed in the Special Activities Division, working in an agency irregular rendition task force. The constant discussion about what he achieved is really entertaining, especially as it causes several antagonists some major apprehensions. I am a major fan of this series, having read the last few entries, Mission Critical and One Minute Out (the latter was one of my favourite books and audiobooks of 2020), and I have been looking forward to this book for a while (indeed it was one of my most anticipated releases for 2021). He took the offer and worked for them for years. Relentless was no exception, and I found myself really enjoying listening to all the cool sequences unfold and at times I almost felt like I was there witnessing it. His character has depth, thoughtfulness and even a small soft spot beneath his cool, stone-like exterior. But when he takes revenge upon a former employer who betrayed him, he exposes himself to something he's never had to face before: a killer who is just like him. The next two very good but not quite as action packed as the first. The Gray Man News While he has written some other books, including seven contributions to Tom Clancys iconic Jack Ryan universe (three cowritten with Clancy, and four written after Clancys death) and the military thriller Red Metal (cowritten with Hunter Ripley Rawlings, and one of my favourite books and audiobooks of 2019), Greaney is probably best known for his awesome Gray Man series. Each of these antagonistic characters are well utilised and introduced, even if they have a short shelf-life, and I appreciated some of the time put into building them up. I liked the way in which the story followed Gentry progressively working his way up the trafficking ladder, from the low-level way station that he accidently discovered, through the corrupt police in several Eastern European towns, to the organisations middle management, their larger auctions, right up the bases of the Consortiums leader in America.
